Trick-Or-Treat: Staying Safe This Halloween
Halloween is an exciting time for children. They get to dress up in costumes, collect candy and generally have a great time. And while Halloween can be a lot of fun, it is also important to keep yourself and children safe from accidents and injuries, which are common at this time of year. In this post, we’ll provide some safety tips for avoiding injuries on Halloween.
CAUTION! LOW FLYING BATS, FIRE HAZARDS AND FLAMMABLE MATERIALS
Halloween presents many flammable products that children come into contact with as such, open flames should always be closely supervised. Set them on a table or other flat surfaces that are out of reach of children and pets. Ensure that curtains, costumes, fabrics and other materials are clear of the flame area. In the alternative, consider safer options such as battery-operated LED lights, flashlights, or glow sticks.
Check to be sure your child’s costume is flame resistant or flame retardant. At the very least, it should be made of non-flammable materials. Keep costumes above the ground by a few inches so your child doesn’t trip on it while strolling or running. Teach children to stay away from any open flame, and provide other fire safety tips.
Children should never be allowed to use sharp knives to carve pumpkins. If an older child is able to safely use the knife, close adult supervision should still be utilized. Open flames in jack-o-lanterns pose a fire hazard. Consider flashlight, glow sticks, or LED battery-powered candles instead. Pumpkins that are smashed, spoiled, or otherwise spilled can be a hazard for pedestrians, bikes, and cars passing over them. Make sure that all pumpkins are promptly picked up and disposed of after October 31.
CAUTION! SKELETON CROSSING: CAR ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES
Did you know as many as 41 million tricks or treaters flood neighborhood streets and shopping malls throughout the country on Halloween night? In addition to little ghouls and goblins, there are also the adults who accompany them, as well as those who head out in search of fun at parties hosted by friends or local bars and clubs. Unfortunately, the increase in the number of pedestrians and the amount of traffic along with lower nighttime visibility and alcohol consumption results in an increased likelihood for accidents and injuries to occur. Remind your children, before leaving the house about road safety. In their enjoyment, don’t let them hurry out in front of a car.
HALLOWEEN IS A REAL TREAT SAFETY TIPS
Planning ahead could make your Halloween outing, event or party a fun and unforgettable one. Keep in mind these easy steps and safety precautions and you are on your way to an injury-free Halloween experience. Remember, Halloween is for teenagers, too. It is an extremely interesting time for them because this is the age where kids want to head out for Trick-or-Treat fun without their parents. What’s promising for you is that you can let them go with a few safety tips:
GROUP OUTINGS: HANGING OUT WITH YOUR GHOUL FRIENDS
Teenagers should set off in a group of least four individuals or more. Going alone is not an option! Ensure that your teenager is with a group of friends. Ensure that they know everyone well. Make sure you know exactly where your teenager will be when they are out. Ask them what their plans for the night are and hold them to it.
REMEMBER THE WITCHING HOUR: SET A CURFEW!
Set a specific time with your child that they need to be home. This season, Halloween outings, parties and event drops begin on a weekday. Kids, teenagers, and college students have school the next day. Make sure to set a curfew to have your children home at a decent hour.
SIT FOR A SPELL AND HAVE SOME BREW: KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE
What about the younger ghosts and goblins? How can we keep them safe? The greatest risk on Halloween to deal with is – injuries from stumbling and falling. The majority of injured kids showing up in the Emergency Room will do so with damaged hands or arms, chipped teeth and cuts and bruises from falling.
Did you know that children are four times more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween? Not only are there more pedestrians present on the road during Halloween night, but many of these pedestrians are young children excited to be trick-or-treating, and perhaps less cognizant of staying out of the road than normal. Arm your children with lights so they can settle their way down dark routes. Ensure that any flashlight has fresh battery power and lights up well. Carry one yourself.

Dealing With PTSD Following After an Car Accident?
SEPTEMBER 18, 2018 2:30PM
People involved in serious car accidents have been known to suffer injuries resulting in broken bones, whip-lash, minor cuts, and bruises. However, the emotional trauma of a car accident can be just as devastating as the physical wounds. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or “PTSD”, can affect your relationships, career, and enjoyment in life.
Did you know that car wrecks are the leading cause of PTSD in the United States? Many people who are involved in a car accident do not know they’re suffering symptoms of PTSD after a serious accident. Here’s how that kind of diagnosis affects a car accident claim.
WHAT IS PTSD?
PTSD is a psychological condition that can affect people who have been through particularly harrowing experiences. The common thread through all cases of PTSD is that the victim has suffered or witnessed a traumatic, stressful, or fear-inducing incident. PTSD itself is a pathological anxiety disorder that basically occurs when the brain is unable to properly turn off the fight-or-flight reactions and anxieties associated with a traumatic event.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU SUFFER FROM PTSD AFTER AN ACCIDENT?
If you are suffering any symptoms of PTSD following a car accident, you should consult with a physician and any recommended specialist to get the treatment you may need, just as you would with any other kind of car accident injury. You should always consult an experienced personal injury attorney as the effects of PTSD might be included in any damages claim you may wish to make.
When it comes to PTSD-like symptoms after a car accident, keep in mind that it is almost certainly not in your best interest to settle your car accident case immediately. You never want to settle until you have a clear sense of the nature and extent of your injuries. And since mental health treatment can be long-lasting in the wake of any kind of trauma, it’s wise to hold off reaching any kind of settlement agreement until you have a complete picture of your losses.
KNOW THE SYMPTOMS OF PTSD
For most people who are in a car accident, the overwhelming feelings go away over time. Sometimes those feelings don’t go away. They can change the way you think and act. Strong feelings that stay with you for a long time and get in the way of everyday life are signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. If you have PTSD after a car accident, you may have some of the following symptoms:
• Reliving the accident through nightmares and flashbacks.
• Sleep problems or inability to concentrate.
• Being afraid to drive or ride in a vehicle.
• Feeling persistent depression or hopelessness.
• Being unable to remember details about the crash.
• Placing irrational blame on yourself or feeling guilty about the accident.
Though the symptoms of how they come to the surface, PTSD is characterized by four primary types of symptoms:
• Arousal – constant alertness, which can include sleep disturbance, hyper-vigilance, paranoia, and inability to focus.
• Numbing – the victim keeps an emotional distance from the world around them; experiences feelings of depression, feelings of hopelessness, and a growing inability to feel emotions.
• Intrusion – the victim experiences recurrent recollections of the event.
• Avoidance – this symptom can include avoidance of people, places, or other circumstances associated with the trauma.
PATH TO IMPROVING YOUR WELL-BEING
There are things you can do to cope with your feelings after a car accident. First and most important follow up with your family doctor. Your doctor can give you referrals to other health care providers if necessary. He or she can monitor your recovery and prescribe any medication you may need. They can refer you to a mental health specialist or therapist to help you work through your feelings.
Try talking to your friends, relatives, or a counselor about the details of the car accident. Talking to friends, family or counselor about how you felt, thought and acted at the time of the accident and in the days after it will help you open up your feelings. Try to get back to daily activities and routines. Traffic accidents make some people limit what they do. It’s important to try to get back to your usual activities. Even if you’re uncomfortable or scared at first, it’s part of healing.
Stay active. Exercise often. Take part in activities that don’t bother any injuries you sustained during the accident. Your family doctor can help you figure out how much you can do safely. Learn to be a defensive driver. Driving or riding in cars might be hard after the accident. You can lower your risk of future accidents or injuries by practicing defensive driving. Always drive carefully, wear your seat belt, and avoid distractions while you’re driving. These include eating, talking on the phone, or texting. Avoid driving when you’re tired. Never drive if you have had alcohol or taken drugs or medicines that affect your judgment.

How Social Media Hurts Your Personal Injury Claim
AUGUST 10, 2018 12:30PM
Social media can be a great outlet for people to share the latest events and aspects of their lives. It is a fantastic way to keep in touch with friends, family, and colleagues. However, oversharing information after a serious injury can bring big trouble for your injury claim.
If you have social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you need to be cautious about what you post and how you convey information if you have been injured in an accident. At Benoit Law Firm, we’ve had several clients ask about how social media use can hurt your claim after an accident. In this post, we’ll discuss how social media can hurt your injury claim and the steps you can take to reduce the risks.
WHY DOES IT MATTER, IF I POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
In order for your claim to be effective, it must prove another party was negligent or responsible for causing the accident. Unfortunately, an injury claim can be influenced by factors that occur after an accident, including information you post on social media accounts. An insurance adjuster looks for evidence to limit the claim or prove no-fault for his or her client.
This is one of the first places they’ll look about is social media. They’re looking for any type of evidence that contradicts your claim. For example, if you claim to have suffered a broken leg injury, but days after the accident you post a picture of yourself running a marathon, this can be used at trial to question your character in front of a judge and jury.
In the event a case goes to trial, social media can be used to discredit the credibility of your claim, which could limit compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and so on. Oversharing on social media is particularly important in states like North Carolina, which follows contributory negligence rules: when an injured person shares one-percent of fault, contributory negligence leaves that person with no chance to recover compensation for any losses stemming from the accident.
If you, for example, share that you had been doing drugs or drinking the night of your accident, this fact could undermine your entire claim. To ensure you get the best outcome, it’s best to avoid posting anything on social media throughout the entire claims process. This includes videos, pictures, tweets, updates, blogs, and other shared content.
HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOUR CLAIM?
Pictures are worth a thousand words. Avoid posting pictures, videos, updates and tweets of you doing anything that may hurt your case. Insurance adjusters and defense attorneys are going to scrutinize every aspect of your profile and your postings. If you sustained a neck injury from a car accident the night before, you should not be participating in triathlon and you definitely should not be posting pictures of it.
It’s important to not talk about your claim over social media. All it takes is a few videos, pictures or misjudged words to incriminate yourself. For example, your arm may be feeling much better one day so you post about it. The next day, you can hardly move your arm again but you have given them ammunition with your previous post. In order to avoid making yourself into your own worst enemy, keep your injuries between you, your personal injury lawyer, and your doctor.
Investigators sometimes look for preexisting injuries through posts. Perhaps you posted something about your past back problem that is contributing to your new injury. Have you heard the saying that some things in your lives are best left in private? Well, a preexisting injury is one of them if you have a personal injury claim. Under any circumstances, you should never post any information affiliated with money towards your case.
This is important for one it is a safety issue. Secondly, you can make yourself seem inconsiderate, greedy, or just in it for the money. These issues can all raise red flags in your case so it is based to avoid them altogether.
STAY INFORMED. BE PREPARED

Christmas Holiday Hacks to Avoid Going Broke
The leftover honey-baked ham and smoked turkey is wrapped up and stowed away in your refrigerator. The Thanksgiving pies of sweet potato pie, cheese cake and apple pie have been devoured, and you’re ready to kick off the Christmas season. Christmas is just around the corner and you know what that means — Christmas shopping!
Unfortunately, Christmas shopping season kicks with chaotic holiday last minute shoppers, shortage of clothes, electronics, toys and movies. Don’t stress out yet looking for the perfect gift for your children, spouse, friends or neighbors. Break out your wrapping paper, ribbons and Christmas cards for your holiday gifts.
This time of the year can be rough on anyone’s wallet — there are gifts to buy, holiday parties to plan of bubbly champagne, delicious apple cider and wine, and of course, those jaw-dropping holiday sales. Remember all that holiday cheer doesn’t have to burn a hole in your wallet or run you into debt. Don’t worry — we’ve have some tips for Christmas holiday hacks to avoid going broke and staying sane while navigating your holiday shopping madness.
CREATE A HOLIDAY SAVINGS FUND
The holidays can create a joyous time for holiday shoppers but also be one of the most hectic for shoppers during the holiday season. Don’t wait until after Thanksgiving to start ranking up debt onto your credit cards of buying holiday gifts. Start early by creating a holiday savings fund to start your holiday shopping early for your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.
Your holiday savings fund can be set up at the start of every year, set up an automatic transfer from your checking account to fund this account — either every week, every two weeks(when your paycheck hits) or even just once a month. During the holidays lets say you usually spend around $500 per year, that’s about $40 per month on average, or $20 per paycheck. The holiday savings fund is a lot more manageable than coming up with excessive amount of change around the holidays — or even piling up unnecessary card card debt.
PAY IN CASH
As you are heading out this holiday season to do shopping, arm yourself with a clear plan: a holiday list of who you want to buy for and how much you can spend on each gift for your family, friends or neighbors. To keep track of your expenses, consider using cash instead of credit cards. That way, you can go shopping to buy the least expensive gifts on your list with only enough cash on hand to stick to your shopping budget. REMEMBER this is the time of year where holiday sales associate tempt you to sign up for a store credit card offer. BE AWARE: Those store credit cards tend to have very high interest rates and hidden fees for not using the credit card regularly.
GET THRIFTY OR BARGAIN SHOP!
Thrift store shopping during the holiday season brings a magnificent place, filled to the brim with endless possibilities that are just waiting to be re-imagined. Navigating the racks, shelves, buckets and piles of pre-owned pieces can be exciting for any holiday casual shopper. Thrifting has become a popular choice for many shoppers especially for ones who are looking for their next creative or vintage new style, less-costly outfit or last minute Christmas gift.
Thrift shopping is very cost effective, finding valuable items for next to nothing, helps the community and they transport you to another time- one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Instead of going to the mall this holiday season, take your Christmas list to the thrift store, Groupon, Ebay and the antique store. Explore the treasures and wonders of bargaining shopping to find more personal and far less expensive gifts that everyone else is gifting this holiday season.
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX: HOMEMADE GIFTS
Not everyone this holiday season can needs that Coco Chanel#5, 10Karat diamond earrings or Polo Ralph Lauren Cologne. Do it yourself this holiday season by thinking outside the box and creating your own homemade gifts of Christmas food baskets, homemade hand soaps, Mason jar candy cane salt scrubs, Ombre tote bag, homemade jams and gilded notebooks. You’ll save a ton of money baking mouth-watering treats of cookies, making scented spa scrubs, candles or jam and putting them in nice, decorative and less-expensive packages for your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.

Matthew McConaughey talks marriage, sports, his friendship with Lance Armstrong, and much more
Flashing that award-winning smile and showing off his flawless physique in a denim collared shirt with black tie and corduroy pants, Matthew McConaughey looks like a normal person.
McConaughey recently sat down and told all to GQ’s Brett Martin of his marriage to wife Camila, his love of sports, romantic comedies, and keeping a diary.
“I had to get to the point where I saw it as more than just the thing to do,” said McConaughey of marriage. “I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn’t want it to be a destination; the fun is that we’re on the adventure together. And look, some of it had to do with her putting it on me. It took her going, ‘C’mon, Big Boy, Mr. Easygoing-We’ll- Get-to-It-When-We-Get-to-It. either shit or get off the pot’”
McConaughey spoke about the love of fatherhood and being a father.
“It’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to be,” he admitted. “Never is a man more of a man than when he is the father of a newborn. You know what’s important. I definitely got more selfish. And at the same time, I think I got more compassionate.”
McConaughey revealed that he keeps a diary that he often writes in.
“A man should always have his diary on him,” McConaughey said. “That way he’s guaranteed to always have something incredible to read.”
McConaughey has a love of sports that stems from being a longtime Washington Redskins fan. He says the debate for the team to change its name is twofold.
“What interests me is how quickly it got pushed into the social consciousness,” he explained. “We were all fine with it since the 1930s, and all of a sudden we go, ‘No, gotta change it?’ It seems like when the first levee breaks, everybody gets on board. I love the emblem. I dig it. It gives me a little fire and some oomph. But now that it’s in the court of public opinion, it’s going to change. I wish it wouldn’t, but it will.”
McConaughey spoke of his love of movies mostly romantic comedies.
“These things aren’t easy”, said McConaughey. “What’s hard is to make them look easy. Those kinds of movies are what they are. They get pooh-poohed by critics. They get pooh-poohed by actors themselves. And in a way I get it, but in other ways it’s completely unfair.”
McConaughey admits he doesn’t have to work hard to maintain his infamous body.
“I have good genes,” McConaughey said.”My dad was an athlete. I got real fortunate with that. I haven’t used a weight in three years. Plus ten pounds, minus ten pounds—I can go bam, within a week.”
Surprisingly, he discloses he is not the most charismatic McConaughey. His eldest brother, Rooster—his name is Mike McConaughey, but people know him as Rooster—is a “genius” according to McConaughey.
“He just draws people to him,” said McConaughey.
McConaughey discussed his friendship with Lance Armstrong and admits they are still in contact, but not as much as they once were.
“I like people who are great at what they do,” said McConaughey. “At that time, we were two single men who were doing well in their careers and came from different places.”
McConaughey addresses on whether he feels he deserved an apology from Armstrong.
“To put my own emotions in front of this and go ‘You didn’t tell me the truth’ would be arrogant,” he stated. “And you know what? This is a friend. Who I know to be a good man. If there was an apology, it was said and I heard it.”
McConaughey offered up some final comments to close out the conversation.
“I am vain. I think vanity is a good thing. It’s done more good things for me than it has not.”

White supremacist Dylann Roof Sentenced to death
Dylann Roof faces the death sentence for Charleston Emanuel Church Massacre.
Dylann Roof was sentenced to death Tuesday for the Charleston Emanuel church massacre for killing nine black church members during Bible study in a calculated, motivated attack. Roof is the first person to face punishment for federal hate crime charges. The jurors in Roof’s trial reached a verdict in the penalty stage, after three hours of deliberation.
Jurors weighing in on Roof’s trial
Wrapping up the trial, Roof specifically didn’t ask jurors to spare his life, saying that he “had to” kill the nine people that night in Bible study at Emanuel AME Church according to the Associated Press.
At the beginning of Roof’s trial he asserted that he wasn’t mentally- ill and didn’t ask the jurors or family of the victims for forgiveness.
According to the Associated Press, Prosecutors in the case concentrated on the ghastly nature of the massacre of nine black churchgoers attending a June 2015 Bible study at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church. Roof spoke to the jury about weighing in on the factors of his case. He noted to one of the jurors that he had to disagree to spare his life. When the juror read the verdict, Roof stood apathetic and unemotional. The courts say he will be formally sentenced Wednesday.
The idea that Roof wanted
Roof confessed to the FBI agents when they arrested him a day after the June 17, 2015, massacre that he wanted the shootings to bring back segregation.
However the massacre had a merging effect, as the state of South Carolina took down the Confederate flag from its Statehouse for the first time in more than 50 years, and other states followed suit. Dylann Roof posed with the confederate flag in various photos that appeared on his social media pages, according to the Associated Press.
Roof had specifically targeted Emanuel AME Church, one of the oldest African Methodist Episcopal churches in the South, to carry out the emotionless, calculated slaughter, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Richardson said. Richardson also said, those 12 churchgoers who Roof targeted opened the door for a complete stranger with a kind smile.
That day three people survived the ghastly attack, according to the Associated Press.
Testimony from families of the victims
Tuesday in court, several friends and relatives of the victims testified during the sentencing stage of the trial. The relatives and friends shared fond memories of their loved ones, and talked about a future without them.
Clementa Pinckney, the church pastor and a democratic state senator also addressed the court. In the address, Pinckney discussed the great history of Emanuel and what its mission was all about. Roof acted as his own defense and attorney. The last person who was sentenced to death was the Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in 2015.

Historical Carolina Theatre at Belk Place Landmark Coming Back for Business
The Carolina Theatre in uptown Charlotte is set for renovation, and will soon serve as a dynamic civic hub located adjacent to Foundation of the Carolinas’ headquarters facility on North Tryon Street.
The Charlotte City Council entrusted the Foundation with ownership of the 36,000-square-foot historic Carolina Theatre. In June 2013, the City of Charlotte entered into a contract with the Foundation to renovate and restore the property.
The Carolina theater dates all the way back to 1927. For decades, the 28,000-square-foot theater was a major and popular venue. The theater started playing first silent and then sound movies and hosting burlesque acts.
The Carolina Theatre was built in 1927 and was a major performance venue for the Charlotte region, hosting incredible talent as Bob Hope, Katharine Hepburn and Elvis Presley. The theatre, once a jewel in Charlotte’s crown, has stood largely vacant since 1978.

As part of the renovation that is restoring the landmark theater, the theater will be joined with the Foundation’s headquarters next door. When it reopens, Carolina Theatre will host arts & entertainment offerings such as film, comedy, and music, as well as serve as a meeting place for the community and host arts programs. The original Carolina theater built in 1927 seated 1,400 people while the renovated venue of the theater will accommodate about 950 people.

Types of Auto Accidents
JULY 26, 2018 12:30PM
Did you know that car accident occurs every minute of the day, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA)? Car accidents can result in physical injuries, financial losses, property damage and sometimes lead to the wrongful death of others. Whether you are in traffic on I-77 or I-85, on a side road, or even a parking lot, car accidents can occur anywhere at any time and in many different situations.
There are many different types of car accidents that occur on our nation’s roadways. Learning more about these accidents helps you know what you can do to reduce your risk of being involved in them. Below, our injury attorneys at Benoit Law Firm review five of the most common types of auto accidents and offer tips on ways to help prevent these crashes from occurring.
MULTI-VEHICLE
Multi-vehicle collisions involve three or more cars and tend to occur on busy highways, roads, and freeways. These accidents can be even more dangerous than head-on crashes, because cars may receive multiple impacts from different angles. Multiple impacts are difficult for any car to absorb, no matter how large it is, or how many safety features it has.
Multi-vehicle accidents can be difficult to avoid. Be alert and exercise caution on busy highways and roads where cars are traveling at high speeds. Keep an eye on the cars and drivers around you. If another driver seems distracted or is undertaking any dangerous maneuvers, try to move away from them to avoid being involved in an accident.
SIDE-IMPACT COLLISION
These accidents, also known as T-bone collisions, are where the side of one or more vehicles is impacted. These crashes commonly occur at intersections, parking lots and side roads when two vehicles pass on a road.
These types of collisions typically occur when a car runs a stoplight, then crashes into a car traveling through the intersection on a green light. Avoid side-impact collisions by always looking both ways for oncoming traffic even when you have the right of way. Don’t automatically assume other vehicles will adhere to the rules of the road.
VEHICLE ROLLOVER
Vehicle rollover crashes are complex and violent in nature. More than any other type of crash, rollovers reflect the interaction of the driver, vehicle, road, and environmental factors. Although a vehicle’s type has a significant role in the accident, so does driver behavior, road, and environmental conditions. Other factors include location, speed and sometimes, alcohol consumption.
REAR-END COLLISION
According to the National, Highway Traffic Safety Administration rear-end collisions are the most frequent type of collision that occurs on US roads, making up 29 percent of all accidents. These crashes often occur because one car follows another too closely on the road, known as tailgating. Prevent these crashes by keeping a safe distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you.
Avoid distractions when driving, particularly in high-traffic areas where a lot of cars are close to each other. If you are on the road and being tailgated, attempt to change lanes when possible to reduce potential danger.
HEAD-ON COLLISION
Head-on collision accidents occur when the front ends of two vehicles hit each other in opposite directions. Head-on collisions are often fatal road traffic accidents. Make sure you are aware of traffic signs, street conditions and staying in your lane, all of which play critical roles in avoiding these types of accidents.

Seven Tips for New Drivers
JULY 19, 2018 4:15PM
There’s no feeling quite like that of when you’re finally holding that freshly lamented printed license for the first time. Sure, it’s just a piece of plastic, but to a new driver, that plastic card represents the freedom that they’ve been dreaming of for as long as they can remember. Putting a new driver behind the wheel can be quite nerve-racking for parents, guardians and other drivers who will be on the road. Before your new driver hits the open road on their own, it’s important to take a moment to remember a few tips for safe driving. Here are seven “dos and don’ts” that all new drivers should heed on the road.
1. SPEEDING
When it comes to new drivers, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), speeding is a major factor in approximately a third of all traffic fatalities. It also plays a major role in serious injuries caused by car accidents. New drivers lack the knowledge of how long it can take to stop a vehicle when faced with a panicked and dangerous situation. Even if you think your reflexes are fast, if you have to stop in a split-second and you’re speeding, your car may be unable to stop in time. So, instead of pushing things to the limit, choose the smart, safe way and avoid the urge or the need to speed.
2. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE (DUI)
This one should be pretty self-explanatory. Most new drivers are under the age of 21, which means that it’s illegal to consume alcohol. Unfortunately, even this law doesn’t stop everyone from driving under the influence. While it may be tempting to enjoy a few cold beers or shot of vodka at the bar before hitting the road, driving while impaired increases your risk of an accident in addition to possible license suspension, fines and fees and even jail time. Simply put, don’t drink alcohol before you get behind the wheel.
3. DISTRACTED DRIVING
Distracted driving is any activity from checking emails to daydreaming that takes your attention away from the road. In everyday driving, however, distractions are common. From talking with the passengers in your car to eating, to turning around to check on your bickering children or crying baby, distracted driving endangers your life, your passengers, pedestrians and others who are on the road.
These are just some of the most common distractions, but there are hundreds of other potential disruptions a new driver may face. Did you know distracted driving is a deadly epidemic on the nation’s roads? Distracted driving caused at least 3,450 deaths and nearly 391,000 injuries in 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Most distractions that take place behind the wheel are self-imposed, meaning they are completely preventable. So, take control of your environment and safety by getting rid of all things that could potentially distract you while driving.
4. BUCKLE UP!
IT’S THE LAW! The first thing that any driver should do upon entering their vehicle is put on their seatbelt. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, car accidents are the leading cause of death among those aged 5 to 34 in the United States. The most reliable method of saving lives and preventing injuries from occurring is to wear a seat belt. However, millions of drivers and passengers choose not to wear seat belts on everyday occasions. Make wearing your seatbelt a priority by buckling in before doing anything else.
5. OVERCROWDING
For new drivers, having too many people in the car can create a very distracting situation. When new drivers first get their license, it’s all too tempting to go grab your friends or family members and hit the road. However, this might not be the best idea, especially when you know that a new driver’s risk of being in fatal crash increases with each passenger added to the vehicle. So, before you start to offer to pick up all your friends, acquaintances and family members, remember the additional risk that comes with getting into a car with them.
6. FOLLOWING
Following too closely to other drivers on the road is a terrible idea even for the best drivers. Of course, it’s no fun to get stuck behind a car that’s driving five or ten miles per hour under the speed limit. Hey, it happens right! No matter what though, it’s important that you always leave enough room in between yourself and the car in front of you just in case you need to make a sudden stop.
As a rule of thumb, when driving on the highway, try to leave at least 3 seconds or more between your car and the car in front of you. With inclement weather conditions, allow even more time between cars.
7. BE ALERT AND PRACTICE DEFENSIVE DRIVING
For a lot of new drivers staying alert is the main priority. Be alert when driving because you never know when another driver might come into your lane, or when a pedestrian might cross the street.
Practice these Safety Boating Tips for July 4th Holiday!
JULY 4, 2018 6:30PM
Finally, summer is officially here! People are gearing up for the July 4th holiday for family picnics, enjoying the fireworks displays and sailing across the beautiful lake in style! Those with access to a boat have plenty of options across the Carolinas where multiple lakes or even the ocean is right on your doorstep.
But before you dust off your water skis, wakeboards, and tubes — or paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes, if those are more your speed – consider these five tips for safe boating.
TIP #1. SEE AND BE SEEN
No matter which kind of boat you’re in, visibility is key. Not only do you need to make sure you have a clear view of your surroundings, but other boaters should be able to see you too. During the day, wear polarized sunglasses to banish the bright glare that reflects off the water. And at night, make sure all of the lights on your boat are in good working order and always turned on.
TIP #2. SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS WEAR A LIFEJACKET
In North Carolina, while operating a personal watercraft (including human-powered boats like canoes, kayaks, and rowboats) you must wear an approved personal flotation device at all times. Children under 13 years of age must also wear an approved life jacket. So, what’s the difference between a lifejacket and a personal floatation device?
Lifejacket:
- Generally, provides better floatation and thermal insulation than a personal flotation device (PFD).
- Designed to turn you onto your back so your face doesn’t rest in the water, even if you’re unconscious.
- Color selection is limited to red, orange, or yellow for greater visibility.
Personal floatation device:
- For recreational use only
- More comfortable (lighter and less bulky) than a lifejacket
- May be designed for a specific sport
- Usually provides less floatation and thermal protection than a lifejacket
- Wider variety of color options (darker colors reduce visibility)
TIP #3. BOAT LIKE YOU’RE ON THE ROAD.
Many boating accidents are caused by the same factors that cause car accidents, including speed, careless or distracted driving and poor visibility. Be sure to bring all of your safe driving habits with you when you’re operating a boat — and if your boat has a motor, you’ll need to bring your boating license with you too.
TIP #4. DON’T DRINK ALCOHOL WHILE OPERATING A BOAT
This one should be pretty self-explanatory. See Tip #4 above. While it may be tempting to enjoy a few cold drinks on the dock before hitting the lake, boating while impaired (even in a canoe or kayak) increases your risk of an accident and could land you with the same penalties as drinking and driving. Simply put, don’t drink alcohol before you get behind the wheel or pick up a paddle.
TIP #5. DON’T FORGET ABOUT INSURANCE
While most home insurance policies include some coverage for certain types of watercraft, other types (larger models or ones with higher horsepower or modifications, for example) may require separate policies. Boat insurance could protect you in the event of damage or theft to your own boat or a liability claim that results from the use of your boat.

The Dangers of Fireworks
JULY 3, 2018 5:15PM
Picnics, cookouts and other Fourth of July traditions are a time of celebration and fireworks are a fun spectacle often used to celebrate special occasions. In fact, the Fourth of July is the most popular time for the purchase and use of fireworks in the United States. However, fireworks can pose a variety of dangers to your safety including serious burn injuries and even fires.
With the Fourth of July right around the corner, we have some tips before lighting up any fireworks. Whether or not you’re planning your own Independence Day celebration, it’s important to take proper safety measures to keep yourself, family, friends, and children safe. Here are some fireworks safety tips to ensure you have a fun, incident-free, Fourth of July celebrations.
OBEY ALL LOCAL LAWS!
First and foremost, KNOW THE LAWS! North Carolina has particularly strict regulations when it comes to fireworks for personal enjoyment. In fact, in North Carolina, barring some very limited exceptions, fireworks that explode, fly, spin, jump in the air, or leave the ground in any way are prohibited by North Carolina law. The law is stipulated in North Carolina General Statutes 14-410 and 14-414. Violation of this law is a Class 2 Misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and or 30 days to six months in jail. If you plan on celebrating the holiday out of state, please do so responsibly, with knowledge of the laws in your area.
PURCHASE FIREWORKS RESPONSIBLY!
It is very important that you purchase legal fireworks from a reliable source. Legal fireworks have a label with safety information and the manufacturer’s name, while illegal fireworks are often unlabeled. Banned illegal explosives include, among others, quarter sticks, cherry bombs, silver salutes, and M-80’s.
DO NOT MIX ALCOHOL AND FIREWORKS.
Never operate fireworks if you have been drinking beer, wine or using any kind of drugs. Fireworks are dangerous enough on their own and adding impaired judgment with potential physical immobility is a recipe for disaster.
FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
Legal fireworks have safety information and performance descriptions included. You should always read the directions and cautionary information before igniting any fireworks. If you don’t know how to properly set up and ignite the fireworks, you are more likely to cause yourself or others serious injury. Remember to always use fireworks outdoors and away from buildings, animals and other people.
KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN
Children should never operate or ignite fireworks. A responsible adult should always supervise any activity involving fireworks. Ensure that kids have adult supervision when using sparklers, which are a common source of burns and injuries for children.
PRACTICE PROPER DISPOSAL OF FIREWORKS
Once your fireworks have ignited and gone off, dispose of them by wetting them down and placing them in a metal trash can. Keep the trash can away from buildings, animals and combustible materials until at least the next day.
By following these tips, you, your family, friends, and neighbors can enjoy a safe Independence Day.
Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Benoit Law Firm!

STUDENT DISCOVERS INTERESTING EDUCATION FACTS AT NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK JOURNALIST MEDIA INSTITUTE ON EDUCATION

My experience at the NABJ event on Thursday, April 16, was very informative and overall amazing. I greatly enjoyed speaking with several journalists such as Dedrick Russell, Stephanie Maxwell, Ken Lemon and Brittany Johnson. I covered the seminar on education and found it to highly informative and insightful. The Social Emotional Learning program (SEL) through Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools has helped and is continuing to help many students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg remove barriers to learning such as constant social and emotional blocks that can interfere with student success in the classroom. The program helps children in a multitude of ways; one benefit is in the area of academics. SEL has helped 23% of children increase their overall academic skills. Additionally, 9% of students show improvement in their attitudes toward themselves, others and their school. It is reported that for every $1 invested in education through the SEL program, there is an $11 return on the investment. The Social Emotional Learning program is definitely successful.
The conference offered discussions on a variety of great topics including an initiative called ”Ending the School-to-Prison Pipeline.” This program demonstrates how schools and communities are working together to boost opportunities for black students. After the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, many schools began instituting “zero-tolerance” policies for student behavior. These “zero-tolerance” policies combined with notable biases in disciplinary actions pushed a lot of students out of school and into the juvenile justice system. However, some school districts are now working diligently to reverse these trends by creating new policies and systems that build strong school foundations and cultures of connections to help students keep learning in the classroom where they belong instead of behind bars.
The National Association of Black Journalists’ Institute on Education, sponsored locally by the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists provided a wealth of networking opportunities for me and my classmates. I was privileged to meet several prominent journalists and educators including Stephanie Maxwell, Anchor/Reporter at WSOC-TV and Ken Lemon and Brittany Johnson, both Reporters at WSOC-TV. All of them were happy to share their first-hand experiences about working in the broadcast industry. Ms. Maxwell, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Lemon gave me great advice on connecting with people in the industry and recommended that I gain all the experience I can through the internship program at Carolina School of Broadcasting. They advised me to maintain a portfolio of my work and constantly learn new technology. Mr. Lemon told me and other Carolina School of Broadcasting students to never ever give up on our dreams and goals and to keep striving to be the very best we can be. He said, “If you believe you have the ambition, mindset and attitude you can do anything to make your dreams come true.”

Tips for a Safe & DUI-Free Labor Day Weekend
The end of summer is traditionally marked by the Labor Day holiday, a time where people honor the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws, and well-being of the country. A lot of people around the United States celebrate Labor Day with barbecues, alcohol, and parades. You may be returning home from your celebration today or setting out to enjoy a cool refreshing beverage. Either way, it is important to take the necessary steps to keep yourself and those around you safe, especially with extra drivers on the road.
Heavy traffic and many intoxicated drivers will be out on the road during this Labor Day weekend and it is important to stay safe while on the road. Use these tips to have a safe and DUI-Free Labor Day weekend to maximize the safety of yourself, your passengers and other drivers on the road. Benoit Law Firm wishes you an enjoyable Labor Day weekend and urges you to drive safely.
TIPS FOR AVOIDING A DUI
Use a designated driver. Labor Day weekend is notorious for parades, parties, and barbecues, where alcohol is a big factor in celebrating. As everyone is out celebrating this weekend, we encourage you to drink responsibly and choose a designated driver. Keep yourself and those around you safe.
Plan ahead and use rideshare companies like Lyft or Uber. If you plan on drinking a lot during the Labor Day weekend, be smart and don’t get behind the wheel to drive. Not only is that illegal, but it is also extremely dangerous. Instead, call a taxi, sober friend or family member, or use a rideshare company like Lyft or Uber to get home safely without risking the safety of others on the road.
Keep other people from driving under the influence. You are out having a good time partying or just having a good time with family and friends where you notice a buddy or family member who has had too much to drink. Instead of allowing them to get behind the wheel, it is important to help them make other arrangements to get home safely.
Remember that a DUI is more than just a party foul. You could be looking at license suspension, jail time, large fines, the long-term impacts of a criminal record and much worse. You do not want your celebration to be overshadowed by tragedy. Driving under the influence of alcohol can put many lives at risk.
Find somewhere to stay for the weekend. If you can’t find a friend to stay with, if possible, rent a room at a hotel or motel. See if a few friends want to share these costs with you. Renting a room, regardless of the initial costs, will be a far cry from the $10,000 or more than a first-time DUI conviction can end up costing in the long run.

It’s National Safety Month, Don’t Be a Distracted Driver
It’s 9 a.m., you overslept and now you’re rushing to get ready for work because you have an important meeting. You jump in your car to drive to the office and have every intention of driving safely and obeying the speed limit and other traffic laws. However, within minutes of merging onto the highway, you’ve already checked your emails on your iPhone, made three calls to your office, fiddled around with your car’s radio, spilled ice coffee on your suit while trying to eat your breakfast and sent a text message to your spouse.
You might not realize it, but you’re a distracted driver.
Distracted driving is any activity from checking emails to daydreaming that takes your attention away from the road. In everyday driving however, distractions are common. From talking with the passengers in your car, to eating, to turning around to check on your bickering children or crying baby, distracted driving endangers your life, your passengers, pedestrians and others who are on the road.
Distracted driving is a deadly epidemic on the nation’s roads, causing at least 3,450 deaths and nearly 391,000 injuries in 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Nearly 481,000 drivers are using cell phones while driving on a daily basis.
Help make sure that you, your loved ones and others on the road are safe as they travel. Driving is a great privilege, but with that privilege also comes great responsibility.

WHAT NOT TO DO AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT
JUNE 11, 2018 3:00PM
Hopefully, you know what steps to take if you are ever in a car accident. You, or anyone injured in the wreck, should seek medical attention if necessary, call the police, exchange insurance information with the other driver and if possible, safely move your vehicle to the side of the road to avoid further incident. Be proactive and make sure you take photos or videos of any vehicle damage in order to document what happened so you do not forget the details of the wreck later. These are all things you should do.
There are however, some things you should not do after a car accident. In this article, we’ll learn of five things NOT to do after a car accident. Avoid these ill-advised mistakes and you should be back on the road in no time flat — with a little extra knowledge and experience under your belt too.
1. DON’T GIVE ANY STATEMENTS (RECORDED OR WRITTEN) TO THE OTHER DRIVER’S INSURANCE COMPANY
Hire your attorney. His or her job is, in part, to deal directly with the insurance company regarding your personal injury claim. Don’t be swayed by the insurance adjuster sounding friendly on the phone, remember they have no duty to look out for your best interests. Your attorney holds that duty to you. Don’t believe the commercials. Insurance companies are not “good neighbors” and you are definitely not “in good hands”. They are not in the business of fairly compensating people that have been injured by their drivers. Keep in mind that despite what the insurance company tells you, you are under no obligation to give a written or recorded statement to them.
2. DON’T ADMIT LIABILITY
And why is it important to not give a recorded statement? Because you do not EVER want to admit liability. When police arrive on the scene, make sure you accurately describe the facts of the accident and how it happened, but you don’t need to reach any conclusions as who contributed or caused the wreck at that time. Liability will be determined later with more complete facts are known and statements are taken and compared by the police and attorneys. By admitting the accident was your fault – in any way – no matter how minor you believe your “faulty” actions may have been, you are essentially accepting complete responsibility for an accident. That is because in North Carolina, where contributory negligence is the law of the land, even 1% responsibility on your end will result in the complete denial of your claim.
3. DON’T SIGN ANY DOCUMENTS
Another thing you should definitely NOT do is sign any documents without first consulting an attorney. The insurance company for the at-fault driver and their lawyers will act swiftly to obtain evidence to defend the wrongdoer against your case. Again, the insurance companies are not in the business of giving injured victims proper compensation! That is NOT how they make money. Their sole purpose is to move your claim along as quickly as possible, for as little as possible. Don’t let the insurance company pressure you into a quick settlement by signing documents before you fully understand what you are signing. Once you have signed paperwork resolving your claim, it is closed – forever. It does not matter if you have complications months later as a result of the accident, once you’ve signed, your claim is over. Let us help.
At Benoit Law Firm, we use the tools and resources at our disposal to ensure that you are properly compensated for your medical expenses, lost wages, future medical expenses and pain and suffering. Hiring the right lawyer can make a significant difference in your recovery. Call or #TextDex and let us get working on your case today.
4. DON’T SHARE ACCIDENT INFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS
Social media has increasingly become evidence that can be used against you as your claim progresses. Insurance companies dedicate hundreds of employees to review claimant’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc., all in the hopes of finding damaging information. If you have been injured in an accident, avoid posting about the claim or your injuries as those posts may be used against you to weaken your claim. In some instances, it could cost you your case. Be SMART. It is safest to stay off of social media for a short time until all your claims relating to the accident have been settled.
5. DON’T WAIT TOO LONG TO SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR YOUR INJURIES
After being involved in car accident, many symptoms can appear days or even weeks after the accident but you should NOT wait that long before seeking medical treatment. See a doctor soon after the accident and report any symptoms you experience, no matter how minor, such as muscle spasms or mild headaches. Be HONEST with your health care providers and describe any and all symptoms you’re feeling from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Make sure you reach out to an attorney as soon as possible to help you because it gives them an opportunity to investigate the accident and prepare a stronger case on your behalf.

Heroic Boy Killed in Hit and Run accident
NOVEMBER 4, 2015
CHESTER, SC (WBTV) — A family is feeling heartbroken after losing their son. LaDarious Wylie was hit by a car while waiting for school bus in Chester, South Carolina. The family is shocked by this tragic incident.
“We can’t really say what’s gonna lie ahead says Felicia Mobley Wylie’s aunt .”
There is an appreciation for the person LaDarious was-He was full of energy, caring, lovable and smart young man.
“We’re just dealing with it on a daily basis, says Felicia Mobley Wylie’s aunt.”
His little sister Shavonte right there behind her aunt and a couple of other kids were standing near corner of Dye and Ashford waiting for a school bus last Tuesday morning when a car-for some reason-swerved toward the kids.
According to the children-at that moment-11 year old LaDarious took on the role of Hero…

“Yes he did. Yes he did says, Felicia Mobley Wylie’s aunt.”
In LaDarious final act he pushed his little sister out of the way. It happened just cornerwise from his house.
“In other words he saved his sister and he ended up being the one where he is now, says Felicia Mobley Wylie’s aunt.”
So much about vibrant Ashford Street would never be the same. Across the street that’s yards away a memorial. The wreath outside hanging on the family’s home.
Imagine walking out the door everyday and how painful it must be to look across the street.
Still, there’s innocence about Ashford Street. A park where kids and LaDarious spent a lot of time, playing, played a lot of basketball. So family, friends and neighbors would like to see the park given new life in LaDarious’ name. They’re trying to get a petition started.
“So what we’re trying to do is get it rebuild and turn it into recreation center for the kids so they don’t have to be playing all out. They can be inside.”To rename the old Brooklyn School in memory of LaDarious says, Felicia Mobley Wylie’s aunt.”
In a quick second that Tuesday morning… The vibrant Ashford Street changed.
But the hope is-the story of the little boy who courageously put his sister’s life before his own-will always live.

Charleston Emanuel Nine Shooting: Six months later, Daughter of Church shooting victim remember what happened
DECEMBER 23, 2015

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) — For Gracyn and Kaylin Doctor, the 17th was always just another day, until it became the one of pain. It’s been six months since their mother, Depayne Middleton Doctor, was killed inside a Charleston, South Carolina church.
“Even six months later, its’ hard to believe that all of this has happened,” Gracyn said.
The women told WBTV that on the evening of June 17, their mother went into Wednesday night Bible study at Emanuel AME as she did every week, but she never came out.
“There was definitely a lot of disbelief. I was shocked for a long time,” Gracyn said. “I feel like I’m still trying to get over the shock. “

Authorities say Dylann Roof walked into the church, sat through Bible study for nearly an hour and then turned on the churchgoers who invited him in with open arms. Nine church members were killed there that night.
“Sometimes, you get to that moment – when your mind just kind of wanders – and you wonder. Wow, this really happened. Somebody could really do something like that. That part really blows my mind, ” Gracyn said.
Gracyn was in the courtroom as the man who authorities say was responsible for her mother’s and other nine churchgoers murder appeared by video screen for the first time.
“I don’t think I was ready to forgive him just quite yet. If my mom was alive, she would have forgave him, but we’re still a work in progress. I think I’m still working towards forgiving him,” Kaylin said.
Healing is a process for Gracyn and Kaylin, who now live with their aunt in Charlotte along with their younger sisters.
“It will get better. Each day away from the actual event is better,” Gracyn said. “And I feel like as the days go by, the stronger we’ll get, the closer we’ll get to being healed. “
Making it-through this time thanks to each other. The girls are hoping the 17th eventually turns into a day that will hurt a little less.

Austin Serial bomber uses tripwire in latest attack

Perpetrator gets more elusive, organized and sophisticated with bombings.
March 20, 2018 11:35 PM
AUSTIN, Tex. — A growing sense of fear and panic spread across Texas’ capital on Monday after the latest bombing attack this month. The authorities say, the blast injured two people in Austin on Sunday. The authorities confirmed the makeshift bomb appeared to be connected to three earlier bombings, but the bomb demonstrated a “higher level of organization and sophistication” with the use of an invisible tripwire triggering device, according to the Associated Press.
The three bombings that happened earlier this month were involved with packages that were left on doorsteps and blew up when moved or opened, killing two people and injuring two others, according to the Associated Press.
Police Chief Brian Manley said, “We are clearly dealing with what we believe to be a serial bomber at this point,” he told reporters at a press conference in Travis Country, where the latest bombing occurred, according to the New York Times. He cited connections among the four bombs that has happened in Austin, according to the Associated Press.
AUSTIN ON EDGE: PERPETRATOR SPARKED FEAR IN THE CITY
The latest attack by the perpetrator occurred in a different part of the city Austin, and both of the people who were wounded are white, while the victims in the earlier attacks of this month were black or Hispanic, according to the Associated Press. Residents in Austin have been asked by authorities to remain indoors through the early part of the day and be vigilant for suspicious packages, like boxes or backpacks, according to the Associated Press.
Thad Holt, 76 who lives in the gated condominium community of 5000 Mission Oaks, a few miles from Sunday’s bomb attack, said an occasional car break-in is the kind of crime most typical in the neighborhood, in an interview with the New York Times. He said, “it’s too close for comfort,” Mr. Holt said.
“Fear of this recent attack has put everyone in the whole town on edge.”
LARGE INVESTIGATION
The FBI and Police Chief, Brian Manley have not found a motive of bombings from the Austin serial bomber. Police Chief, Brian Manley quoted, “Is this terrorism? Is this hate-crime?” He asked. He said investigators will “have to figure out if we see a specific reasoning behind this crime, or something major that will lead us along with our federal partners to make that decision,” said Mr.
Manley in an interview with the New York Times. Hundreds of agents from the FBI, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms along with Austin police department have joined the investigation to look into the latest attack.
The FBI behavioral analysts from Quantico, VA who are helping with the investigation were trying to build a profile of a possible killer, said Christopher Combs, special agent in charge of the bureau’s San Antonio division according to the New York Times. “We don’t know who is behind these attacks. We don’t know whether they will continue,” said Mr. Combs in an interview with the New York Times.
The specialty agents from the FBI and ATF were trying to understand whoever was behind the elusive bombings.
The ATF and FBI agents were trying to find out why serial bomber were using this level of violence targeting the city of Austin according to the New York Times. The police, FBI and the ATF have been alerted to hundreds of packages deemed suspicious, as Austin residents have phoned and emailed family and friends to verify the origin of packages before opening them according to the New York Times.
PERPETRATOR ON THE LOOSE, WHAT AUTHORITIES ARE LOOKING FOR TO CRACK THE LATEST BOMBING ATTACK
Since the bombings began three weeks ago, authorities have been warning people to pay extra attention to suspicious-looking packages like delivered boxes or backpacks. Authorities have cautioned residents of Austin to not touch any suspicious packages that look dangerous.
Brian Manley, Austin Police Chief said the tripwire device design required an extreme higher level of skill to create and serve as a “significant change” in an interview with the Associated Press. According to the Associated Press, while the authorities said the earlier bombings appeared targeted, the latest attack appeared to have hurt anyone who happened to walk by.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Christopher Combs, FBI agent in charge of the bureau’s San Antonio division, “the plan went up a little bit — well, it went up a lot yesterday with the tripwire,” he said. Fred Milanowski, agent in charge of the Houston division of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, said in an interview with the Associated Press, the latest makeshift device was tied to a metal yard sign near the head of a hiking trail.
“It was a thin piece of wire, the wire was a type of fishing line, “he said. “The wire tied to the sign would have been very difficult for someone to see.”
Milanowski said the FBI, ATF and Austin authorities have checked hundreds of leads since the bombings began three weeks ago. The authorities have had “persons of interest” in the cases, however the people they had so far didn’t led to much according to the Associated Press. The Austin police have asked anyone with surveillance cameras at their homes to come forward with the footage on the chance it captured the suspicious serial bomber or vehicles according to the Associated Press.

Apparent carjacking led Charlotte Mecklenburg police Department on search for stolen car

Stolen car took authorities on search that expanded to Interstate 85 and northeast Charlotte.
January 19, 2017 5:02 PM
CARJACKING AND ROBBERY
There was an apparent carjacking that took officers on a search in northeast Charlotte early Wednesday morning. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the case of the carjacking. According to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and a news report by local television station WCNC, a man told authorities that he was the victim of the carjacking. The man told authorities that his car was stolen in the 1400 block of Tom Hunter Road near the motel Economy Inn. The man described two suspects involved, one female and the other male. He told them that he was robbed, and that the suspects took off with his vehicle at the motel.
911 dispatchers were reportedly told that the vehicle was stolen and that the car the police were looking for was a gray Toyota Corolla. The police later found a vehicle matching that description. The car that was pulled over had two female passengers, and the driver was male, according to WCNC.
SEARCH FOR THE WRONG VEHICLE
Officers say the search of the vehicle lead them all the way to Interstate 85 north that took them to Poplar Tent Road in Cabarrus County. However, the male driver of the car turned the vehicle around and started to drive back to Mecklenburg County. While authorities were in search of the car, detectives were gathering additional information at the scene of the crime. The detectives were informed by the victim that the car was not a Toyota Corolla but a Toyota SUV.
After police received the correct information, they ended their search of the Toyota Corolla.
The police say that the car involved in the chase was deserted a few miles away from the crime scene on Equipment Drive. The driver of the car had fled the vehicle and has not been captured. However, authorities have said they are not involved in the carjacking of the Toyota SUV.
Police are still trying to figure out why the male driver of the Corolla fled from the scene. The police and detectives have not determined whether or not that the two female passengers in the Corolla will be charged. According to the news report by WCNC, officers have not yet located the stolen car. They are asking anyone with information to call local authorities, or to call Crime Stoppers.
Is race dividing our American society?

The battlefield of wars that are constraining our American society of race.
July 13, 2016 8:59PM
We clearly have a problem in our society. The constant remainders of America’s past racism endure a formidable challenge to our dream for a community that lives out its most endeared principles — freedom and justice for all. Although, there are continued events, which stir racial tensions that reminds us that prejudice and malevolence still intensify. However distrust creeps under the surface of many interactions. News events frequently remind us of the critical and fragile nature of racial tranquility in the United States.
President Barack Obama spoke in a press conference last Thursday following the heinous shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. “All of us, as Americans, should be troubled by these shootings, because these are not isolated incidents. They’re symptomatic of a broader set of racial disparities that exist in our criminal-justice system.”
EXPRESSING OUR VOICE ABOUT THE RACIAL DIVIDE
It’sprettyevidenttherearepeopleadamantlyonbothsidesofthisracialargumentintensifyingandimpendinglarger under the social atomic of enraged protestsand counter arguments. The prospective ways to deal with the matter of contention that one side knows as discrimination through deeply impacted prejudice and the other side holds as lawful duty — these suggested answers continue to keep us divided in this war. The end of racial divide is not going to come easy.
THE HURDLE TO DETERMINATION
The barrier to constancy is that as an American society we are dealing with the chain reactions when we need to deal with the source of the problem. As an American society we are so focused on spreading hate, unleashing anger and retribution when we need to come together as a whole and focus on accepting one another for our characters and not the content of our skin color.
Half of our society isdiscussing about the focal point of the matter: What is the bottom-line cause of it?
WORKING AS A SOCIETY TO HEAL THE RACIAL DIVIDE
According to an article titled, ‘Healing theracial divide –-whatwillittake?’ by Sr. Brenda Walsh, the first step to healing the racial divide of our society is denouncing and dismantling racism in a holistic wayand working together with others to create a community that is whole, inclusive and just.
The second step in healing our society of the racial divide.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was slammed with penalties for Human Rights Injustices

U.S. Department of Treasury bans North Korean Senior Executives and entities linked with Human Rights Injustices.
JULY 8, 2016
First time Washington slammed Kim Jong Un directly
On Wednesday in Washington the Obama administration slammed penalties on North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and 10 other establishment administrators for their so-called involvement in human rights injustice against the people of North Korea. Authority leaders said Kim was “fundamentally liable” for what they called “North Korea’s well-known in justices of human rights.”
“Under Kim Jong-Un, North Korea continues to inflict intolerable cruelty and hardship on millions of its own people, including extrajudicial killings, forced labor, and torture,” said Adam J. Szubin, Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence said in a announcement revealing the new plan in a press release.
SEVERE PUNISHMENT
The penalties also expand to five North Korean state bodies, including the Ministry of People’s Security’s Correctional Bureau which the announcement says supervised labor camps, and other detention facilities, where human rights abuses occur such as those involving torture, execution, rape, starvation, and lack of medical care takes place. Choe Chong Pong, Director of the Investigations Bureau of the Ministry of People’s Security, was also named to the list, along with many top administrators in the agency. However, U.S. Administrators addressing the media on the new plans say they expected the penalties to have a “global massive effect “making it difficult for those on the list to do work with global financial companies.
THE OFFICIALS NAMES WERE PUBLICLY RELEASED
However, this was the first time that administrators noted several of the North Korean officials involved have been publicly noted, citing the hidden nature of the military. The military unit also addressed the hope that the State Department report and penalties will help persuade mid-and-lower-tier administrators to stop from doing Human Rights injustices out of fear of never being touched.
North Korea is already under fire to heavy U.S. penalties for its past nuclear weapons and missile activity. Although, Wednesday’s plan targets the first time government officials have been penalized for Human Rights Injustices. The new quotas were taken in partnership with the State Department’s proceeding of a statement entitled” Serious Human Rights Abuses or Censorship in North Korea,” which was authorized by the U.S. Congress under the North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act, occurred earlier this year.
The government officials said the administration had been functioning before the section of the bill to designate officials for possible penalties in an attempt to expose officials in the North Korean government who are accountable for serious human rights penalties and restriction in North Korea.

SUPREME COURT UNDECIDED IN RELIGIOUS PROTEST TO OBAMACARE
May 16, 2016
On Monday the Supreme Court failed to reach a clear-cut ruling in one of its biggest cases of the year a protest to a compromise under the Affordable Care Act that allowed certain religious nonprofits to decide out of contraceptive coverage for their employees.
The court’s decision in the case of Zubik v. Burwell, was unidentified, only three pages long, and distributed in the name of the whole court, perhaps highlighting how disruptive the issue was for the justices. The gap was obvious during oral arguments in the case.
“Nothing in this point of view, or in the judgments or orders of the courts below, is to involve the ability of the Government to ensure that women covered by applicant’s health plans obtain, without cost, the full range of FDA accepted contraceptives,” the court said in the decision.
Zubik case reached the Supreme Court as a set of seven reinforce cases— all delivered by Christian academies, colleges and associated nonprofits. The groups challenged a withdraw tool the Obama administration formulated for organizations that otherwise didn’t qualify for automatic exception from the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive coverage stipulation, as churches and chapels do.
To these groups, giving in with this pull out scheme was similar to being conniving in their female employees’ decisions to obtain contraception—- which, coupled with the risk of penalties for refusal, amounted to a difficulty on their faith under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
Caught between spiritual objections and the government’s concern in ensuring contraceptive access, the justices issued unusual order, less than a week after hearing the case, informing the Obama administration and the religious groups to reach an understanding.
That all but warn the court was divided on how to rule.
In a decision that appears to divide both ways, the justices seemed to show submission to both the administration’s efforts and the objectors’ faith — likely a result of a court struggling to reach unity after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
“The Government may not force taxes or penalties on applicants for failure to provide the important notice,” the court declared, referring to the withdraw form that carried about the lawsuit.
Perhaps more severely for the Obama administration, the Supreme Court effectively wiped out all of the government’s prior accomplishments in lower courts — where it had a impeccable streak— and ensured that these cases will be ongoing.
“Given the pressure of the discussion and the substantial explanation and cleansing in the positions of the parties, the parties …should be allowed an opportunity to arrive at an approach going forward that welcomes applicants’ religious exercise while at the same time ensuring that women covered by applicants’ health plans receive sufficient and identical health coverage, including contraceptive coverage,” the court said.
However, the very heart of these cases was left totally unclear, and the Supreme Court tried strong to not tip its grasp as these controversies face a new round of claims.
“The Court asserts no view on the integrity of the cases,” the justices said. “In particular, the Court does not decide whether applicants’ faith exercise has been considerably loaded, whether the Government has a compelling importance or whether the current arrangements are the least confining means of serving that interest.”
Reasonably fearing that the court’s decision might give certain religious employers the ability to stand in the way of their employees’ access to birth control coverage, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote separately to clear-up what Obamacare does — and what it clearly doesn’t do.
“Requiring standalone birth-control method-only coverage would leave in oblivion. Sotomayor wrote, joined by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. “And requiring that women appropriately pulls out into such coverage would force just the kind of roadblock to the delivery of preventive services that Congress wanted to wipe out.”
Moments after the decision, the Supreme Court ruled separately in a number of awaiting cases that depended on the fallout in Zubik—- a string of challenges involving the University of Notre Dame, a Catholic district and other religiously affiliated institutions and ministries.
However, with the main ruling, these cases are expected to continue in lower courts for periods of time, or maybe even years. With no decision in sight, it wouldn’t be surprising if another version of the case arrives at the high court — perhaps by the time there’s a ninth justice established.

SOUTH TEXAS BUS CRASH: AUTHORITIES AFFIRM 8 DEAD, 44 HURT
May 14, 2016

LAREDO, TX- Saturday a charter bus was en route to a casino that crashed in miles of South Texas, killing eight people and hurting 44 others in a one-vehicle rollover, authorities said.
On U.S. Highway 83 about 46 miles north of Laredo seven people died at the scene and another person died later at a Laredo hospital, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Conrad Hein said.
“The operator of the bus lost control and rolled over, Everything’s real exploratory right now, Hein said.”
The operator of the bus was among the survivors of the crash. His name and the names of travelers were not directly available, Hein said.
The trooper announced it was storming Saturday morning but it was undetermined if that was a factor in the crash that occurred just before 11:30 a.m.
“Our troopers are going to inspect into what happened but it’s going to take us some time. We just know the operator of the bus lost control, he said of the investigation.”
The National Transportation Safety Board announced Saturday night it was dispatching a team to also inspect the wreck. The team were supposed to appear Sunday.
Webb County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ricardo Rangel informed the Laredo Morning Times the bus belonging to OGA Charters was on the way to a casino in Eagle Pass, about 125 miles northwest of Laredo. The bus corporation is stationed in San Juan, in Hidalgo County in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. A note left at the bus corporation Saturday was not directly returned.
Hein affirmed 23 people were taken to Doctors Hospital in Laredo, where the eighth victim died. There were fifteen people taken to Laredo Medical Center and seven people were taken to a Dimmit County hospital in Carrizo Springs.
Priscilla Salinas, a spokeswoman for Laredo Medical Center, said bus travelers being cared for there were in stable condition. She said she could share no further information.
The highway at the accident scene was reopened by early nightfall. Laredo is about 150 miles southwest of San Antonio.
In Texas in the last several years the crash was one of the dangerous bus accidents. In January 2015, two state corrections leaders and eight prisoners were killed after their Texas Department of Criminal Justice bus bumped into a piece of removed highway guardrail west of Odessa. The bus dropped down about 20 feet before clashing a Union Pacific freight train that happened to be traveling below the highway. Last Thursday, the NTSB analyzed that the wreck was caused by the bus bumping the guardrail piece.
In 2008 seventeen travelers died near Sherman when their bus dropped over a highway bridge on their way to a devotional sanctuary in Missouri. The NTSB accused that crash on a retreaded tire on the right front axle that was ruptured by an unknown object.
However, the retread itself wasn’t the source, the committee noted that the tire was fasten to the front axle illegally, the bus corporation didn’t have the force to leave Texas after declining an inspection three months earlier, and the company that investigated the bus wasn’t completed to judge whether it was ready for the road. The owner of the Houston bus corporation was incriminated with making dishonest statements but escaped prison in 2014 after a federal judge sentenced him to three years of probation in an appeal affidavit.

STEPHEN CURRY TO BE ENTITLED MVP FOR SECOND SEASON
May 9, 2016 10:30 AM

PORTLAND, Ore.-Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will be entitled NBA Most Valuable Player for a second straight season, according to organization sources.
According to sources they told ESPN.com that the extensively foreseen honor for Curry is anticipated to be announced in the next few days, with the Warriors hover to return to Oakland, California, on Tuesday after Monday night’s Game 4 in Portland.
Curry has been an mind-boggling favorite to repeat as league MVP since the Warriors’ record-framework start to the season, when Warriors went 24-0 outperforming the previous record for perfect start to a season by nine wins—midway to a 73-9 mark that overshadow the 1995-96 Chicago Bull’s 72-10 record as the successful single season in NBA history.
Curry is demanding to become the first collectively chosen MVP in NBA history; Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James dropped one vote shy of unified pick in 2000 and 2013, properly.
Curry has given himself a spot at across-the-board the selection thanks to a season as demographic prevalent as any guard has ever put together.
Curry is the first player in league history at any spot to moderate 30 points per game in less than 35 minutes per game over the development of a full season.
Curry also smashed his single-season NBA record for made 3-pointers with 402 — his preceding record was 286 last season — while accompanying Steve Nash and his coach, Steve Kerr, as the only players in league history to shoot at least 50 ratio from the floor, 45 ratio from 3-point range and 90 ratio from the line in a single season.
The 28-year-old will be the 11th player to achieve adjacent MVP awards in the NBA’s 70-season survival. LeBron James was the last to accomplish that victory with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.

FORMER NC STATE GOLFER HAS SENTIMENTAL TOURNAMENT
MAY 4, 2016
Former NC State Golfer, Kelly Mitchum has engaged in more than 20 PGA Tour events, but nothing quite like this week’s event in Charlotte of the Wells Fargo Championship.
Mitchum said, “It will be nostalgic, and a lot sourer than sweet,”.
Kelly Mitchum is the lead golf instructor at Pinehurst Golf Academy, Mitchum wouldn’t have been in the Wells Fargo field had it not been for the death of Mike Townsend, head golf professional from Kiawah Island, S.C. who was killed in a car accident last summer. Mike Townsend’s victory in the 2015 Carolinas PGA Section Championship had won the Wells Fargo slot at Quail Hollow Club.
Back in March, Mitchum won the Carolinas PGA Head Professional title and the Townsend’s Wells Fargo berth. Mitchum will be using the tournament this week to raise funds to help Mike Townsend’s family- his wife Katherine and her two children, 3-year-old Spencer and 1-year-old Ana Kate.
During the tournament donations to the Michael Townsend Trust Fund can be made by promising a dollar amount for the number of pars or birdies made by Mitchum during the tournament or a one-time contribution.
Mitchum said, “Mike has been memorialized in many ways and I wanted to find a way I could help the family financially. “ A lot of people have charity events where they play a number of holes in a day or walk a number of miles. I personally thought this would be another way of doing it.”
Mitchum is trying to make as many birdies and pars as he can to help out Townsend’s family by playing all four days.
Mithchum said, “There’s a lot of pressure, but this is for Mike Townsend and he was really looking forward to playing in a Tour event. Unfortunately life sometimes doesn’t always go as planned or expected, as we all know.”
Michael Townsend was a former Methodist University All-American and a Garner native, he was the head pro at the Kiawah Island Club’s Cassique course. Townsend had a four-shot win over fellow Kiawah Island Club pro Charles Frost in the Carolinas PGA Section championship on July 30 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Townsend had the choice of either battling in the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro or the Wells Fargo.
However, some days later Townsend died in a single-car accident on Johns Island, S.C. He was 32-years-old.
Carolinas PGA Section pros gathered to hit ceremonial tee shots into “Lake Townsend” at Bryan Park Golf Course in Greensboro having a ceremony honoring Townsend that was held in August.
Kelly Mitchum, 45, has participated in the PGA Championship four times and will be battling in his 25th career PGA Tour event. Townsend’s win in March also obtained him a slot in the recent RBC Heritage at Hilton Head.
During the first two rounds Mitchum was partnered with flashy Bryson DeChambeau, the former U.S. Amateur and NCAA champion at SMU who was making his pro debut.
“He’s the real deal type of person, Mitchum said. “He really has confidence in himself and he’s got all the shots.”
Kelly Mitchum, 1991 ACC champion at N.C. State and four-time All-American, made the slot at Quail Hollow in 2004 and said he is pleased by the golf course and the tournament setup.
“I feel fanastic about my game, “ he said. “I need to break away from making any enormous errors, I need to make a few putts.”
Kelly Mitchum has become a YouTube prodigy because of his putting. One of his videos on YouTube titled “The best 3-putt, ever” has received almost 800,000 views and another “Best 3-putt, ever?” has been broadly watched.
In the first round, he hits three consecutive putts, all with right-to-left breaks, all breaking off up in the same cup. In second round, one swing of the putter sends three balls in three various directions, all landing in different cups.
Kelly Mitchum’s cup of tea at the Golf Academy at Pinehurst Resort is the short game, but he has said during the video tapings, “Some people had to be curious what is this guy actually doing? Mitchum said it took about an hour to shoot the first video, but during the second and third hours on the second.
Mitchum is desiring to make a lot more putts this week. It will be excellent in more ways than more.

POLICE FOUND INFANT REMAINS UNDER SMITHFIELD HOME
Posted April 18, 2016 6:30PM Updated April 19, 2016 2:30PM EDT

SMITHFIELD, NC-The police have found the body of at least one infant that was found in the tunnel space of a Smithfield home over the weekend, according to a court order released Monday.
Authorities say, James Morgan, who resides in the tenanted home with his mother, Pamela McBride, who was transporting a cable under the house, at 102 Hartley Drive, when Morgan found couple garbage bags in the tunnel space Saturday afternoon. When Morgan looked to see what was inside one of the bags, he catches a glimpse of what he thought were human remains, so he and his mother called the police.
A Johnston County medical examiner and Smithfield police later affirmed the body of an infant were in one of the garbage bags. According to the letter for a court order to search the house and neighboring property, towels were bundled around the body, which were planted inside three garbage bags.
According to neighbor Tozziana Salazar said, “You would discover it in the news from other locations and then, approached to it being so nearby, it’s very unsettling.”
According to the court order application, McBride told the authorities that her daughter, who use to reside in the home, has struggled drug addiction and tried to conceal several pregnancies. McBride said her daughter often would disclaim being pregnant in the first place and then wouldn’t clarify what had occurred to the baby after she had given birth to the child. McBride expressly attributed a 2005 incident when her pregnant daughter sealed herself in the restroom for a few hours. Family members later uncovered a “path of blood” and believed the baby had been delivered, even though the child was nowhere to be detected.
According to the court order application, McBride has guardianship of two of her grandchildren, a 8-month-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. Another child was given up for adoption at birth. McBride believed her daughter had been pregnant about ten times.
When authorities searched the home, they apprehended the two garbage bags and the body that was found under the house, a bottle of prenatal vitamins, many Department of Social Services messages postmarked to the daughter and molded grocery bags from a cold storage that contained a phone and other general items.
The body of the infant have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh.

SO YOU THINK, GENDER PAY GAP IS A MYTH, HERE IS WHY IT’S NOT!
APRIL, 12, 2016
SILER CITY, NC (NC ONLINE NEWS) —One of the most well-known arguments that people make about the gender pay gap is that it simply doesn’t exit. Take this for example of the CBS Money Watch that argues The Gender Pay Gap Is a Complete Myth.
However, brushing off the pay gap as a fable was created by feminists who couldn’t understand the distinction of finance. Also on Equal Pay Day is the day that marks how far women in 2016 have to work to catch up with what men had earned last year. As we explore why pay equity has not simply been achieved and why the subject cannot be brushed off.
Did you know that pay gap has been argued on average from people all over the United States including men and women? On average women in the United States make 79 cents for every dollar a man earns, arguing that it is a very deceitful underestimation. According to a Washington Post 2015 article, there has been a few experts arguing that there is a wage gap but there are differences in the life choices of men and women. Such as for women leaving the job when they have children.
Many people argue that the argument of “life choices” made by women are the reason behind the gap is, in itself is ridiculous. Many women today like to choose to stay home or just cut back on their hours after having children. However, a lot women don’t decide that. A lot of the time some women are pressured out because they can’t find a full-time job that offers and affords some kind of flexibility or they can’t afford child care. In our society Americans remain contradictory about women working outside of the home. Did you know that 30 percent of Americans still believe women should stay home after having children or be fulltime moms to care for young children?
The Gender Pay Gap is a lot worse for women of color. Black women in 2014 in the United States earned 63 percent of what white men made in this country were paid. According to the National Women’s Law Center, Latina women earned 54 percent than blacks. National women’s Law Center estimates that black women tend to lose more than $877,000 over a span of a 40-year career as an aftermath of the pay gap. Also Black women will have less likely to have access to things on the job such as family leave and paid sick days and flexible work schedules.
When women enter traditionally male fields, the pay drops. Another reason of brushing off the gender pay gap is to point out that women tend to work in lower paying job fields such as nursing, social work and teaching. Research has shown that when women enter commonly “male” fields they make less money.

SOCIAL MEDIA FIRES UP A STORM ON FORMIDABLE BATTLE OVER TRANSGENDER ORDINANCE
MARCH 25, 2016
RALEIGH, NC (NC ONLINE NEWS) —There has been uproar on social media over the battle over Transgender Ordinance. Celebrities, Politicians, and the media all across the country have taken their fight to social media to deliberate the House Bill 2, which revoked a local transgender ordinance in North Carolina.
The bill has blazed a powerful debate on social media. If you click here, you will see multitude of tweets arguing about the issue using hashtag #HB2.
Many Celebrities like actress Laverne Cox of the Netflix original series “Orange is New Black” have asked followers to organize and fight the bill.
North Carolina’s Governor Pat McCrory broadcasted a statement on his decision to sign the bill on Twitter Wednesday evening, calling the Charlotte’s ordinance ridiculous.
Governor McCrory’s office announced a statement explaining his response, “The basic expectation of privacy in the most personal of settings, a restroom or locker room, for each gender was violated by government overreach and intrusion by the mayor and city council of Charlotte. This radical breach of trust and security under the false argument of equal access not only impacts the citizens of Charlotte but people who come to Charlotte to work, visit or play. This new government regulation defies common sense and basic community norms by allowing, for example, a man to use a woman’s bathroom, shower or locker room.
“While local municipalities have important priorities working to oversee police, fire, water and sewer, zoning, roads, and transit, the mayor and city council took action far out of its core responsibilities. As a result, I have signed legislation passed by a bipartisan majority to stop this breach of basic privacy and etiquette which was to go into effect April 1. Although other items included in this bill should have waited until regular session, this bill does not change existing rights under state or federal law.
“It is now time for the city of Charlotte elected officials and state elected officials to get back to working on the issues most important to our citizens.”
North Carolina Attorney General and Democratic candidate Roy Cooper is set against McCrory in the November election. Cooper posted a video to the social media of Facebook debating with the bill before it passed. Copper called the HB2 bill biased.
After the HB2 bill was passed, NC Attorney General Cooper asked his Twitter followers to retweet his photo statement that reads, “We’re better than this. Discrimination is wrong, period.”
The North Carolina Attorney General tweet also included the hashtag “#WeAreNotThis”, which has sparked on social media.
