Jockey’s Ridge, Nags Head
Jockey’s Ridge State Park has a beautiful scenery of towering sand dunes, which reaches 80’ – 100’ feet tall and the sand dunes look more of a dessert than in a coastal beach town.
These dues are barren, and made up of nothing but Outer Banks sand, providing an incredible playground for hang gliders, sand boarders, and anyone who doesn’t mind a long hike and some incredible island-spanning views.
While the sand dunes are certainly the biggest and most noticeable attraction in Jockey’s Ridge State Park, there are actually acres of outdoor activities for anyone to explore in this diverse recreational area, from kayaking to kiteboarding, hiking to just soaking up the sun in this tropical paradise spot.
Looking Glass Falls, Brevard
The Looking Glass Falls is one of the most popular tourist attractions and beautiful waterfalls in North Carolina. The name “Looking Glass” comes from Looking Glass Rock, where the water freezes on its sides in the winter season and then glistens in the sunlight like a mirror and looking glass.
The Elizabethan Gardens, Manteo
Horticulturists, nature lovers and history buffs will find something unique each season at The Elizabethan Gardens. Winter, spring, summer and fall contribute to the ever changing beauty and tranquility of this unique garden, an oasis of color in a land of sea and sun.
Plan a visit to the Elizabethan Gardens and take in the vibrancy of this living memorial to the Lost Colony, built to entertain and delight Queen Elizabeth I during her reign.
Lake Lure, Rutherford County
